Blue Lagoon

Upon visiting Reykjavík, we were fortunate enough to get the chance to pay a visit to the The Blue Lagoon which is well know as a geothermal spa down in the south west of Iceland. Its can be found in a lava field not far away from Grindavík, Reykjanes Peninsula, in an area well know for geothermal power and heat. The water it uses is taken from nearby Svartsengi geothermal power station.

I went out with a group of friends of whom I was working with on-board a cruise ship. We decided that we all wanted to visit the Blue Lagoon as it is seen as somewhere not to miss when in this area.

When visiting, you are met by the strong smell of sulphur which I can only describe as rotten Eggs. Do not let that put you off though, as once you have undergone the strict hygiene process, you soon are met with beautiful steamy bath of which when entering you can immediately enjoy the hot soothing water with temperatures ranging anywhere between 97°F to 102°F. Trust me when I say that you really feel all your aches and pains sooth away. If relaxing is not your thing, then take a smooth swim to the bar within the spa waters itself and grab yourself a beer. It is pure paradise, and along with this, it is known for a variety of health benefits from relaxing muscles which helps release trapped nerves to even helping ease rheumatoid conditions.
