Life on a Cruise Ship

Life on a cruise ship.

So then. back at the start of the year i decided to take a new career path upon graduating from university. I decided to take my DJing to a new level and apply to DJ on a Cruise ship. I applied to agents that dealt with Royal Caribbean and P&O cruises, but it ended up that Royal got there first. So i went through the interview process which was 3 interviews. One with the hiring partner and 2 with heads of the company. It was the one that i had in London which was a face to face interview with a HR recruitment officer from the Miami office. Anyway, moving on, its now almost 5 months on board and i have seen about 25 different countries and lost count of how many areas of the world we have visited. Life on board is great. the perks are amazing, but i would be lying if i said it was all easy. Yes you are seeing the world, but it does tend to get lonely sometimes. It is easy to miss home when being away on a ship for so long. However, you soon get over those small areas of upset when you reach a new destination. Some of my favourite places i have been to so far have to be iceland, Norway, Croatia and Italy. All places i have always wanted to go. Overnights in venice was such a treat. The good thing about this ship, the Azamara Quest is that it isn't the largest vessel, which means it can get in to port some of the larger ships cant. Also another bonus about it is that we get alot of overnights in places that have nightlife that goes crazy. One of my greatest nights out was portugal. We met up with some locals who took us around the rural areas, and then on to a late night pool deck party where we stayed till the early hours. Sometimes its nice just to wander off and get lost in somewhere you have no idea about. Lots of time to think and realise who you actually are as a person and what you want. Next up are a few photos from my travels and i hope you keep up with my blogs. This is my first one, with many more to come before i go home.

Still lots more places to see. This next week will, take us to Ravenna Italy, Venice Italy, Split Croatia, Kotor Montenegro, Taormina Italy, Sorrento Italy, Rome Italy Livorno Italy and then once again Monte Carlo Monaco.

We will have just had a day at sea by the time I post this, which will have meant a day of activities for me and the Singing and dancing cast. I must say as much of a great experience this is, I am defiantly excited about getting back on land and DJing in a nightclub where I can play a few filthy tracks to a complete young crowd. I wonder how long it will take me to want to get back on board. This week has been a good week and I have been loving everyday as it comes and trying my best not to take this opportunity for granted, because I have been given the chance of a lifetime. My plan now is to catch up on my production over the next two months so that when I reach land I have an almost finished album. The music that I have been creating is of a style that expresses my experience onboard. The ups and downs, the learning curves, and realising how much life is worth to me. I really can say that I have learnt to appreciate everything and everyone I have in my life, I have visited so many places that it can be seen that people really do make the most of what they have, when in fact sometimes they have very little, but not once do you hear them complain.

I am starting to miss those I left back home. It is easy to get lost in this lifestyle, but its important not to lose contact with those that count. That is why I am so grateful for those people that have made the effort to stay in my life when I am so far away. It must be easy to continue life without someone, as life must go on and it would become the norm to get used to somebody no longer being around. It is weird that I never thought I would miss the routine life back home of DJing the same place every week and living in the same house everyday, but I do. After a while you start to crave the comforts of home and the people left behind. Anyway. I am moving forward and making the most out of the time I have left. Trying to experience new types of food and understand other country’s cultures. I attended the azamazing evening the other day and it was an amazing experience. A taste of Croatian food and music at a concert put on for the guests of the ship. I had a great time and realised that I need to do more tours and explore not just the tourist areas of the locations, but also travel more inland. Anyway enough from me, and look out for my next blog.
